Deciding when to help and when to step back

The Intervention Gauge asks five yes-or-no questions: whether your child notices the problem, wants support, has faced it for more than two weeks, has tried something independently and faces an immediate safety or wellbeing risk.

After you answer all five, the tool suggests a level of involvement and concrete next actions. A reported safety or wellbeing risk takes priority over independence. This is a reflection tool, not a safety assessment or a substitute for professional help.

Common Questions

What happens if there is a safety risk?
The tool recommends stepping in directly when you report an immediate safety or wellbeing risk. Do not wait for a tool result to protect a child or seek appropriate help.
Does this tool decide for me?
No. Its suggestion is based on five answers and cannot capture every detail of your family. Use it to organize your thinking; you remain responsible for deciding what support is needed.
